RB Tyler Thompson was named All-State. WR Curtis Cooper was named to the Cal-Hi Sports - All-State Junior team. RB Ashton White was named to the Cal-Hi Sports - All-State Sophomore team.

All-CIF 2 Eagles earn All-CIF
LB/RB Tyler Thompson, and OL Ryan Lumm were the first Eagles to ever be named All-CIF Division 1. In addition, Ryan Lumm was named to the CIF ALL-SS team comprised of the best players from all 12 divisions.

All-League 17 Eagles named All-Serra League. Thompson earns MVP honors
RB/LB Tyler Thompson was named the Serra League MVP. OL Ryan Lumm, RB Ashton White, WR Curtis Cooper, LB Matt Vogel, DL Alex Huston, DB Trevor Zinn, and DB Thomas Cappelletti were named 1st Team All-Serra League. OL Mike Tirabassi, WR Johnnie Walker, DL Doug Alvarado, OL Spencer Hollison, OL Kyle Skierski, OL Chad Brazee, DL Chris Cutler, RB Ryan Whelan, and QB Matt Dlugolecki were named 2nd Team.

The Eagles finish the season (8-3) and Serra League Champs after a tough Overtime loss to A.B. Miller for the second year in a row. Congratulations to the entire team, parents, and especially the seniors who have dedicated so much time and energy to the program.

Eagles 41 - Servite 26
The Eagles defeated the Servite Friars 41-26 to capture their first Serra League Championship and a return visit to the Division I Playoffs. Tyler Thompson capped a sensational regular season by rushing for a career-high 258 yards on a school-record 35 carries and three touchdowns to cement his claim as the Serra League MVP, while backfield mate Ashton White added 160 yards of his own to help the Eagles finish with season-highs of 419 rushing yards and 519 total yards overall. Trevor Zinn's spectacular diving interception at the Eagle 20 sealed the Eagle win. Senior linebacker Matt Vogel spearheaded the defensive effort with a team-high 11 tackles and Thomas Cappelletti added nine and a forced fumble.

Eagles shock Mater Dei
Santa Margarita knew it needed to play a complete game to beat Mater Dei on Friday night, and that's what the Eagles got. Almost to the letter. The Eagles, ranked 10th in Orange County, made big plays on offense, defense and special teams to stun top-ranked Mater Dei, 21-14, and seize control of the Serra League in front of an estimated crowd of 6,000 at Cal State Fullerton.

Eagles 21 - Mater Dei 14
The Eagles defeated the nationally ranked Mater Dei Monarchs 21-14 in front of an estimated 6,700 fans. The convincing win erased doubts that the Eagles could play with the three-time defending Division I Champion Monarchs, ranked No. 7 in the nation per USA Today, and eased the suffering from last season's devastating 34-0 loss at the hands of the Monarchs. The victory now ranks with the two CIF Championship wins as one of their three greatest ever, and put the Eagles (7-2, 2-0) in position to win their first ever Serra League Championship.

Eagles 48 - St. John Bosco 28
The Eagles unleashed their offense rolling up 20 first downs and 475 total yards, including a season-high 341 yards rushing, en route to a 49-28 win over the St. John Bosco Braves at Saddleback College. Tyler Thompson continued his dominating ways by rushing for 203 yards on a record-tying 32 carries. WR Curtis Cooper had 5 catches for 79 yards. QB Matt Dlugolecki was 9 of 13 for 134 yards and three Tds. Ashton White finished with 137 yards on 15 carries and 1 TD. Defensively, Matt Vogel collected seven tackles while Ryan Whelan collected three tackles and pass broken up to go along with his interception.

Eagles 31 - Alemany 10
Tyler Thompson rushed for a career-high 213 yards and two touchdowns and Mat Dlugolecki threw two touchdown passes to lead the Eagles to a commanding 31-10 win over the Alemany Indians before a homecoming crowd of 4,500 at Saddleback College. All told the Eagles gained a season-high 319 yards rushing and 485 total yards and limited the Indians to only 236. Defensively 22 players recorded at least one tackle led by Matt Vogels six and Cappelletti's five.

Sons also rise for Heisman winners
It hasn't happened before, and it might never happen again. But here they are, these two young boys with their famous names playing football on the same team, at the same time, at the same school. Call it Heisman High. Ashton White, son of Charles, the 1979 Heisman Trophy winner for USC, and Thomas Cappelletti, son of John, the 1973 Heisman recipient at Penn State, are two of the more promising athletes on Santa Margarita High's Top 10-rated team.

Eagles 21 - Bishop Amat 19
The Eagles used a career-high 164 yards rushing from sophomore Ashton White to jump out to a 21-6 lead, but needed a game saving stop on a two-point conversion play to defeat the Bishop Amat Lancers 21-19 before a crowd of 3,300 at Kiefer Stadium. The win was the second in as many years for the Eagles over the tradition-rich Lancers and improved their record to 4-2. QB Matt Dlugolecki was 10 of 18 for 122 yards. Alex Huston, continued his amazing season with two sacks, two batted down passes and a fumble recovery (4th of the season). Other defensive standouts included Trevor Zinn who collected a team-high six tackles, Matt Vogel who added five tackles, ½ sacks and a forced fumble and sophomore DT Chris Cutler had a another good game collecting a sack and batting down a pass of his own.

QB Matt Dlugolecki was 14 of 23 for 163 yards and 2TDs. Tyler Thompson rushed 12 times for 66 yards Curtis Cooper provided an unexpected spark by catching a career-high six passes for 83 yards to earn Offensive Player of the Game honors. Defensively, sophomore FS Ashton White led the Eagles with a career-high 13 tackles while Anthony Bernal added seven. Alex Huston continued his strong year with six tackles, a sack and fumble recovery, while Ryan Whelan also recovered a fumble.

Eagles 41 - Norco 26
Tyler Thompson earned Offensive Player of the Game for his 127-yard rushing and 109-yard receiving effort. Dlugolecki was six of 11 for 181 yards and a career- high three touchdowns while junior guard John Finneran collected six decleaters. Defensively, the Eagles forced five turnovers - the most since forcing five in a 63-0 win over Corona del Mar in 1997 - and collected a season-high three sacks with Chris Cutler and Alex Huston picking up one each. Matt Vogel led the team with nine tackles, Thompson registered five tackles and added a sack and forced fumble and Alvarado added four tackles. Cappelletti registered five tackles and Brazee picked up four to go along with their interceptions, while Ashton White had four tackes and picked off his team-leading second interception.

The Eagles put together their third strong fourth quarter effort in as many weeks by scoring 17 unanswered points in a span of nine minutes to turn a 10-10 game into an impressive 27-17 win over the Division I Lakewood Lancers (2-1) before 3,000 rain-soaked fans at Saddleback College. Alex Huston registered eight tackles, ½ sacks and a 14-yard reception. Tyler Thompson had 13 carries for 61 yards. Ashton White had 14 rushes for 79 yards. QB Matt Dlugolecki was 7 of 13 for 83 yards, 11 yards rushing and Offensive Player of the Game honors. Defensively, the Eagles played well against a very athletic Lancer team. Tom Cappelletti (career-high seven tackles) and DT Chris Cutler (five tackles, ½ sacks) also stood out defensively.

Tyler Thompson (20 carries for 124 yards, five tackles) and Ashton White (18 carries for a career-high 83 yards) led the Eagles on the ground. Defensively, despite the missed tackles, the Eagles limited the Griffins to 242 total yards and only five completions in 10 attempts. Linebacker Matt Vogel led the Eagles with 13 tackles while sophomore DT Chris Cutler added six tackles and a sack.

Thompson was selected Offensive Player of the Game for his 83 yards rushing, career-high 100 yards receiving on only three catches and two touchdowns. Dlugolecki (13 of 19 for 190 yards and two Tds) and Spencer Hollison (five decleaters) also had strong games offensively. Senior LB Matt Vogel led the defense with 10 tackles and also averaged 35 yards per punt while Huston (nine tackles and Defensive Player of the Game) and Brazee (six tackles and Defensive Lineman of the Game) in particular stood out.
