Led by Garrigan, Santa Margarita finds running game in McFarland
McFARLAND, CA., September 30, 1994 – Santa Margarita didn't have a rushing touchdown in the first three games of the season, but Friday night Eagles running back Brian Garrigan gained 119 yards and scored three touchdowns in a 36-0 non-league victory against host McFarland.
Garrigan scored on runs of 3,3 and 4 yards, and teammate Billy Newman rushed for 120 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries. The Eagles evened their record at 2-2, while McFarland, which is near Bakersfield, fell to 2-2.
Santa Margarita coach Jim Hartigan said the running game, which gained nearly 290 yards, was a big confidence-booster for the Eagles, who have struggled on offense.
