Eagles 2 - Glendora 0
Game won by forfeit
The Glendora High football team had to forfeit five victories for using an ineligible player. The player is an unidentified sophomore starter who was only 14 through the first six weeks of the season. California Interscholastic Federation rules require that varsity football players be at least 15.
Glendora dominates in victory
MISSION VIEJO, CA., September 16, 1994 – Glendora seemed like the perfect opponent for Santa Margarita to get healthy against Friday night.
Like the Eagles, Glendora lost its opener to Ayala. And although Glendora advanced to the CIF-SS Division IV semifinals last season, graduation took a heavy toll on both sides of the ball.
So, what happened?
Glendora dominated, limiting the Eagles to 126 yards of offense en route to a 21-0 victory at Saddleback College.
“Thank God it's preseason," Santa Margarita coach Jim Hartigan said. "We may have to use the preseason to see who wants to play and who doesn't want to play."
Santa Margarita hasn't started a season 0-2 since 1991.
Glendora kept the Eagles off balance much of the night, scoring its first two touchdowns on trick plays.
The first came eight plays into Glendora's second drive. Junior running back Mathis Ward threw a 22-yard touchdown to junior wide receiver Ben Russell with 2:52 left in the first quarter.
On Glendora's second possession of the second quarter, Russell struck again, running 58 yards for a score on a reverse from Mathis.
Russell didn't play last week against Ayala because of a separated shoulder.
The Eagles, playing with starting quarterback Chris Collins out with a dislocated knee, failed in their attempt to establish a running game.
