Congratulations to QB Johnny Stanton (Nebraska), OL Dane Crane (Washington), DB Connor O'Brien (Washington), WR River Cracraft (Washington State), OL Riley Sorenson (Washington State), DL Nick Begg (Washington State), RB Ryan Wolpin (Northern Colorado), DB RJ Mazolewski (Cal Poly), WR Reid Andrew (Wesleyan University), and OL Frank DiPietro (Golden West) from the class of 2013 who have committed to play football at the next level.

OL Frank DiPietro, WR Reid Andrew, and LB RJ Mazolewski were chosen to play for the South Team in the annual Orange County All-Star Game. The game annually features the top 72 graduated football players in Orange County.

Dane Crane to play in the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl
The players were chosen not only because they are some of the most talented high school football players in the country, but also because they exemplify the Marine Corps values of honor, courage and commitment. The second-annual game will take place Friday, Jan. 4, at 9 p.m. ET, at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., and will be televised live on NFL Network.

OL Dane Crane was named Cal-Hi 1st Team Offense, and MaxPreps 1st Team Offense All-State . DB Connor O'Brien was named Cal-Hi 3rd Team Defense, and MaxPreps 1st Team Defense All-State. QB Johnny Stanton was named pre-season Cal-Hi Multi-Purpose All-State. OL Riley Sorenson was named pre-season Cal-Hi Offense All-State.

WR River Cracraft was named the Co-Offensive MVP of the Trinity League. OL Dane Crane was named the Co-Lineman MVP of the Trinity League. DB Connor O'Brien, OL Riley Sorenson, RB Ryan Wolpin, and DB R.J. Mazolewski were named 1st Team All-Trinity League. WR Kyle Sweet, OL Ryan Kilander, OL Frank DiPietro, LB Sammy Gibbs, DL Nick Begg, and LB Tony Bone were named 2nd Team.

The Eagles rallied for two touchdowns in the final 2:06 minutes of regulation to force overtime, but were unable to score in the extra period. RB Ryan Wolpin had 129 yards on 25 carries. The Eagles finish the season (8-3) advancing to the CIF-SS Pac5 Quarterfinals.

RB Ryan Wolpin rushed for 216 yards on 25 carries. QB Kyle Sweet was 14-21 and 204 yards as the Eagles advance to the 2nd round of the Pac 5 playoffs. Safety RJ Mazolewski helped pace Santa Margarita's defense with an interception at his 5 and a 47-yard return in the middle of the third.

RB Ryan Wolpin rushed for three of the team’s six rushing touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a 42-0 victory over JSerra in Trinity League action Friday at Saddleback College. Wolpin finished the game with 97 yards rushing on 18 carries, while QB Kyle Sweet added 55 yards on 10 carries.

K Alex Ury kicked a 19-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining giving the Eagles the win. Sophomore QB Kyle Sweet completed 10 of 12 passes for 134 yards and one touchdown. RB Duncan Hume rushed for 69 yards on 15 carries.

The Eagles snapped a seven-year losing streak to the Friars with a 21-0 victory at Saddleback College. Sophomore QB Kyle Sweet ran for 52 yards in the second half and also completed 6 of 7 passes for 36 yards. Defensive end Nick Begg recorded two sacks. Gian Carlo Spinosi blocked a field goal attempt late in the first half to help keep its third shutout.

Stanton selected as National Athlete of the Month
Santa Margarita quarterback Johnny Stanton was awarded the National High School Coaches Association/GTM Sportswear athlete of the month for September on Thursday. NHSCA communications director Jeff Fisher presented Stanton with the award in the school's gym in front of the Eagles' student body.
Eagles 35 - St. Bonaventure 27
The Eagles (5-0) came from behind to beat the St. Bonaventure Seraphs (4-1) in a Pac-5 showdown of undefeated teams at Saddleback College. RB Ryan Wolpin rushed for 195 yards and two TDs on 23 carries. QB Johnny Stanton rushed for 100 yards and also passed for 133. WR River Cracraft added five receptions for 83 yards.The defense finished the game strong as Hunter Graham recorded the first sack and Taylor Prenovost recovered the ensuing fumble to end the game.

Ryan Wolpin is OC Register Male Athlete of the Week
Wolpin set a new school record with six rushing touchdowns in Friday’s 72-0 victory over Carson. He scored on runs of 9, 4, 11, 8, 35 and 50 yards. He finished with 173 rushing yards on 16 carries.

Ranked No. 1 in the county, No. 2 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports and No. 2 in the nation by ESPN, SM broke school records for most points in a half and most points in a game. Senior running back Ryan Wolpin finished the game with 174 yards on 16 carries, scored on runs of 9, 4, 11, 8, 35 and 50 yards to break a school record with 6 touchdowns in a single game. QB Johnny Stanton completed 13 of 15 passes for 181 yards and two passing touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown on the first drive. WR River Cracraft finished with seven catches for 123 yards, including touchdown catches of 20 and 21 yards.

The Eagles beat the Mustangs 55-0 in a Pac-5 match-up between these two local rivals from opposite ends of Santa Margarita Parkway. Senior quarterback Johnny Stanton threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns, while senior Ryan Wolpin rushed for 173 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Eagles 35 - Long Beach Jordan 6
The Eagles beat the Long Beach Jordan Panthers out of the Moore League 35-6 in an away game at Jordan High School. QB Johnny Stanton was 10-of-20 passing for 95 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 75 yards on seven carries capped off by a spectacular 74-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. The defense did was strong only allowing the host Panthers 177 total yards.

Eagles 27 - Brophy Prep 14
Santa Margarita, ranked No. 1 in the Orange County preseason poll and No. 2 in the nation by USA Today, pulled out a 27-14 victory against Brophy, the #1 ranked team in Arizona. The game was broadcast live on ESPN2. QB Johnny Stanton was 12-for-20 passing for 215 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also carried the ball 16 times for 92 yards and a score. RB Ryan Wolpin carried the ball 25 times for 146 yards, 127 of which came in the second half. Santa Margarita had 22 first downs compared to Brophy’s seven. The Eagles’ defense played a consistent game, minimizing the effects of the offensive mistakes and by shutting down Brophy’s offense.

Congratulations, Eagles! The SMCHS Varsity Football team was recently named No. 1 in the nation by Rivals.com, and No. 2 in the nation in USA Today’s Preseason National Rankings. This is the first time in the five-year history of the Rivals High 100 that a team from California has been ranked No. 1. The Eagles look forward to a successful season as the returning CIF-Southern Section and CIF State Champions.
