Player Notes
Last week Senior RB CHRIS SPANGENBERG rushed for 101 yards a week after gaining 102 yards at Lakewood. He has rushed for a team-high 1,012 yards on the season for 10th best on the Eagles' all-time list. Billy Newman's 1,015 yards in 1995 is 9th best. Against Orange Lutheran ran for 118 yards and scored two touchdowns to give him a team-high 10 TD's on the year. Chris became the 15th Eagle player to score at least 10 rushing TDs in a season. He ran for 95 yards and also caught a career-high three passes vs. Foothill in Week 5. At Fountain Valley Spangenberg ran for a career-high 148 yards and scored a career-high three touchdowns. It was the 42nd best rushing day in Eagle History. Chris's 60 total points scored leads the team. He also has 1,210 yards rushing in his career which is 7th best on the all-time list. Spencer McCroskey is 6th on the list with 1,537. Chris's 101 yards rushing and Carlo Audagnotti's 133 marked the third time this season that two Eagles rushed for at least 100 yards in a game. Last week Chris's 102 yards rushing and Carlo Audagnotti's 200 marked the second time. At the time, against Dorsey in Week 2, Chris's 101 yards rushing and Sophomore John Michael Davis's 100 marked the first time in four years that the Eagles had two rushers gain over 100 yards in the same game since Ashton White and Chase McWhorter gained 180 and 108 respectively vs. Redlands in 2002. Chris and John Michael became the 103rd and 104th players to gain 100 yards in a game.
Junior RB CARLO AUDAGNOTTI rushed for 133 yards on 11 carries including a career-long 60-yard sprint last week vs. Mission Viejo that set up the winning touchdown. Carlo's 200 yards on 27 carries at Lakewood marked the 19th time an Eagle has rushed for 200 yard and was the most by an Eagle since Ashton White's 254 vs. Rialto in 2001. Carlo is averaging an ashtonishing 8.5 yards per carry on the season. The team record for yards per carry in a season is 9.0 by Billy Newman in 1996. Carlo's three touchdowns at Lakewood were the first of his career and his 58-yard TD run was the longest by an Eagle since Chris Ramsey's 67-yard TD run against Loyola in 2003.
Junior DT LOGAN HARRELL recorded a sack against St. John Bosco and is second on the team with 5.5 on the season. He is now 3rd on the Eagles all-time sack list with 15. Joe Winklemann (1991-92) is second with 17.5. Against Fountain Valley he recorded 1.5 sacks and against Foothill Logan forced a fumble. In week 2 against Paloma Valley he recorded a sack on the one yard line and nearly ended up with his second career safety which would have been a school record. Logan's has 105 tackles in his career which is tied for 45th on the all-time list.
Senior DE/TE MATT BROWNING recorded seven tackles against Mission Viejo. He registered a sack and fumble recovery against Lakewood in Week 11. His sack at Lakewood gave him a team leading 6.5 on the season. Matt set a career-high with ten tackles and three sacks at St. John Bosco. Browning recovered a fumble and caught a career-high four passes for 34 yards against Foothill. He also recorded a sack vs. Servite.
Junior MLB KIRK SKIERSKI had five tackles against Mission Viejo to give him 62 on the season - good for third on the team. He also broke up a pass in that game. Kirk recorded seven tackles at Lakewood, five tackles vs. Servite and a season-high nine tackles at St. John Bosco. Kirk also has 1/2 a sack, 2 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and 3 passes broken up to his credit.
Senior WR/P NIK DIALYNAS let loose a career-long 54-yard punt at Lakewood. He had a 53-yarder at Orange Lutheran and added a 51-yarder at St. John Bosco. He has also pinned a remarkable 11 of his 33 punts inside the opponent's 20. Nik is averaging 36.3 yards per punt with a season-long of 54 yards. Nik's 17-yard touchdown reception against Mission Viejo with 1:32 left closed the gap to 24-23 and set up the winning 2-point conversion run by Eric Reisinger. His 12-yard reception on fourth and nine against Foothill essentially saved the undefeated season and was the key in setting up Chris Spangenberg for the winning 17-yard scoring run.. He also caught a career-long 46-yard pass against Servite and a 26-yarder at Orange Lutheran. He has 11 catches for 171 yards on the year.
Junior WR/QB/SS JOHN MICHAEL DAVIS's 100 yards rushing against Dorsey was the first 100-yard game by an Eagle QB since Michael Angelo san for 140 vs. Servite in 2003. He's also third on the team with 14 receptions for 169 yards and third in rushing with 166 yards. John Michael registered five tackles against Mission Viejo and is seventh on the team with 43 total tackles. John leads the team with three interceptions for 50 yards and also recorded a fumble against Orange Lutheran. The school record for interceptions in a season is seven and it's held by David Shearer (1990) and Brad Finneran (1993). John Michael has broken up seven passes on the year. The school record for PBU's in a season is 12 held by Garrett Thompson (1997).
Senior QB ERIC REISINGER completed 15 of 26 passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns against Mission Viejo. He also rushed for 36 yards on six carries. He had two TD's passing but he added a third TD "through the air" as he hurdled three defenders at the goalline on his way to an eight-yard score in the second quarter. His 17-yard TD pass to Nik Dialnas and subsequent two-point conversion run with 1:32 won the game and will go down in Eagle lore as two of the all-time great clutch plays. Eric ran for a career-high 41 yards and scored a career-high two touchdowns at Lakewood. He also completed 5 of 9 passes for 107 yards and a touchdow. He completed 15 of 25 passes for 177 yards vs. Servite and two touchdowns. He was 15 of 21 passes for a career-high 185 yards vs. St. John Bosco in week 9. His four TD passes in that game were a career-high and only one shy of Carson Palmer's record of five set in the 1997 CIF Championship game vs. Tustin. Eric completed 13 of 25 passes for 173 yards and a career-high two TDs at Orange Lutheran. He set career-highs of 17 completions and 33 attempts and threw for 176 yards passing and rushed for 19 yards against Mater Dei. Eric also ran for a two-point conversion in that game. In Week 5, he completed a then career-high 14 passes against Foothill a week after throwing for 162 yards against Fountain Valley. Reisinger has completed 123 of 210 passes for 1,498 yards and 13 touchdowns. He's completing 58.6% of his passes on the year. His 1,511 career passing yards is 10th best all-time. He needs 153 yards to pass Marshall Tharpe for 9th place. Eric began the season 6-0 as a starter which was the third best start for a QB in Eagle history. Michael Angelo (UCLA) was 7-0 to start the 2003 season (he didn't start the 22-0 loss to SJB in Week 6) while Greg Orlando (Cal State Northridge) was 6-0 (1997 three starts and 1998 three starts) before suffering a defeat in Week 4 of the 1998 season. Carson Palmer (USC, Cincinnati Bengals) started off 2-0, lost to Servite, but then proceeded to win his next 22 starts). Eric is 10-2 (.833) overall as a starter which trails only Palmer who was 24-1 (.960) as a starter. Other QB's of note include Trevor Yankoff 20-5 (.800), and current Eagle QB coach Greg Orlando who was 13-4 (.765).
Senior Captain and OLB KYLE ALDRIDGE leads the team with 103 total tackles and is now in 6th place on the Eagles all-time tackle list with 220. Andrew Holstein is 5th with 221 and John Minardi is 4th with 224. He is only the 4th player ever to have back-to-back 100-tackle seasons joining Mike Farris (1989-90), John Minardi (1996-97) and Jack Meehan (2002-03). Kyle registered a team-high 13 tackles against Mission Viejo and also recorded an interceptiona and fumble recovery. It was his third cereer interception and third career fumble recovery. Aldridge registered 15 tackles vs. Servite and also at St. John Bosco. Aldridge also recovered a fumble vs. Mater Dei and picked off a pass vs. Dorsey. Kyle recorded 18 tackles at Orange Lutheran in Week 7 which is one shy of his career-high 19 he had vs. Orange Lutheran last year. His 15 against Servite gave him four games of at least 15 in his career - tied for 3rd best all-time.
Senior OLB and Captain MIKE LACY is second on the team with 92 tackles after recording four against Mission Viejo. Mike recorded 10 at Lakewood where he also broke up a pass. Mike leads the team with 33 unassisted tackles. Lacy collected seven tackles vs. Servite and 10 at St. John Bosco. He registered 11 at Orange Lutheran and eight tackles and a sack vs. Mater Dei. Mike collected 11 against Foothill and a career-high 12 at Fountain Valley in Week 4. Lacy had one tackle in 2005 giving him 93 in his career which is tied for 54th on the all-time tackle list. Lacy has four forced fumbles on the season tying the record previously set by Ryan Zalta, Joe Hauke, Matt Brooks and Mike Rusert. Mike has tied two other school two marks already this season. Besides the four field goal attempts against Long Beach Poly he earned credit for three forced fumbles in a single game against Dorsey. A fierce hitter, he also holds the informal school mark for consecutive games with a broken face mask.
Senior Captain, CB, FB and special teams wiz MATT MEYER is third on the team with 19 unassisted tackles and 6th overall with 54 total tackles. Meyer recorded five tackles at Lakewood and seven tackles and a sack vs. Servite. He has 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, an interception and two passes broken up to his credit. He also caught his first career pass vs. Dorsey and recorded his first career interception in that game too.
Senior CB ERIK MANARINO is 4th on the team with 57 tackles and is second on the team with 26 unassisted tackles after registering four total tackles vs. Lakewood. He collected a career-high 10 at St. John Bosco. He also has an interception, fumble recovery and five passes broken up to his credit. Erik's 57-yard touchdown on a fumble recovery at Orange Lutheran was the third longest defensive TD in Eagle history and longest since 1994 when Matt Nickels returned an interception 71 yards at Trabuco Hills. Brian Finneran (Atlanta Falcons) returned a fumble 63 yards for a TD at Buena Park in 1993.
Senior TE NICK PIZZURRO caught two passes for 30 total yards and two key first downs in the process against Mission Viejo. Nick caught a touchdown pass the past three weeks - at Lakewood, vs. Servite in Week 10 and at St. John Bosco in Week 9. Nick tied his career-high with three receptions at Lakewood. He caught two passes at Orange Lutheran and a week before he caught a TD pass vs. Mater Dei. He leads the team in touchdowns with five. His over the shoulder 24-yard TD reception against Dorsey was not only his longest career catch, but demonstrated his clutch playmaking ability. He's caught 23 passes in his career and seven have been for scores while 15 of the other 16 have resulted in first downs.
Senior Captain and WR/FS/KR/Holder, RYAN MAXWELL returned a punt 39-yards at Lakewood to set up the Eagles' first score. His 74-yard punt return TD against Dorsey was the third of his career. He holds the school records for punt return yardage (529), punt return TDs (three), punt returns in a game (4) and punt returns in a career (38). Ryan leads the team with 47 receptions for 633 yards. Ryan caught a career-high 8 passes vs. Servite and also had eight for 104 yards vs. Mater Dei. With four receptions for 43 yards Maxwell passed Brad Finneran (Villanova) and is now third on the Eagles all-time receiving list with 1,582 yards. Brian Finneran (Villanova, Atlanta Falcons) is in 2nd place on the all-time list with 2,539. Ryan is also 3rd in career receptions with 109 (John Minardi is 2nd with 116). Maxwell is also 5th on the Eagles all-time all-purpose yardage list with 2,997 yards. Tyler Thompson is 4th with 3,696 all purpose yards. Maxwell has set the record for most punt return TDs in a career (3), and tied the record for most kick return scores held by Josh Ireland. Ireland returned three kickoffs for TDs but no punts in his career. He's also tied for most punt return TDs in a season (2 in 2005) with Johnnie Walker who had two in 2001. Maxwell has scored 17 touchdowns in his career. Amazingly these have covered, in chronological order, 26, 36, 88, 60, 20, 17, 13, 59, 34, 46, 25, 43, 74, 20, 27, 1 and 46 yards for an incredible average of 37.4 yards per score. Tyler Thompson (1998-2000) currently holds the school record for longest average distance for a touchdown scored which before Ryan was a seemingly lengthy distance of 22.8 yards. His 46-yard TD at St. John Bosco was the second 46-yard TD reception he's had at St. John Bosco's Ribotta Field. Maxwell recorded his 6th career interception at St. John Bosco which puts him tied for 5th on the Eagles all-time interception list. Ryan has a chance to be the first player to (1) average double digits over his career in receiving, rushing, punt returns, kickoff returns and interception returns, and (2) score touchdowns five different ways. At the moment Ryan shares the school record of four different ways with Josh Ireland and Tyler Thompson. All he needs is either a kickoff or fumble recovery return for a TD.
With one fumble recovery yard gained Ryan would join Aston White and Tyler Thompson as the only players to record all-purpose yardage all six possible ways - rushing, receiving, punt returns, kickoff returns, interception returns and fumble recovery returns. If he succeeds he would also be the only Eagle to ever register yardage in seven different categories. He completed a pass for 12 yards last year vs. Servite, but passing is a total offense category not an all-purpose category.
