Eagles 49 - Lakewood 23

Santa Margarita ousts Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, CA., November 17, 2006 – The fog rolled in late during the second quarter to halt what had been a back-and-forth slugfest.

But not even the fog could slow down the Santa Margarita running game.

Santa Margarita gained 200 of its 349 yards on the ground in the second half as the Eagles ran over host Lakewood for a 49-23 victory in a CIF-Southern Section Pac-5 Division first-round playoff game at John Ford Stadium.

The Eagles' Carlo Audagnotti rushed for 201 yards and three touchdowns.

Santa Margarita (9-2) will host Mission Viejo in a second-round playoff game next week at Saddleback College. The Lancers, the Moore League runner-up, finished their season 7-4.

"If we can build off this win, I think we'll have a good shot," Santa Margarita coach Mike Jacot said. "This game tonight was a big win for us. We needed to get some confidence back and have a good, solid game."

With a heavy fog limiting visibility on the field, the teams were forced to limit their playbook after Santa Margarita held a 21-16 halftime lead. Santa Margarita took possession first and was forced to punt, but Nikolas Dialynas' 54-yard punt pinned Lakewood at its 8-yard line.
