1997: Carson is enjoying a record setting season despite playing the equivalent of only 25 quarters over eleven games. The Sea View League Offensive Player of the Year completed 14 of 29 passes for 300 yards and one Td at Newport Harbor. It was his record setting 12th game in a row with at least one. In four games vs. Newport Harbor Carson completed 47 of 84 passes for 1,069 yards and 9 Tds. In Week 12, Palmer connected on 10 of 16 passes for 222 yards and three Tds against Servite. It was his 8th game this season with at least two Tds. Carson was named South County News Athlete of the Week for his effort. Against Katella, Carson completed 11 of 14 passes for 223 yards and three Tds to earn Los Angeles Times Athlete of the Week honors. His 223-yard performance allowed him to pass Sean OBrien to become the Eagles all-time passing leader. Against Newport Harbor in Week 7, Carson completed 17 of 29 passes for a school record 356 yards and three scores. He also broke his own school record for total offense in a game with 385 yards. At Corona del Mar, Palmer completed 12 of 15 passes for 186 yards and a school record five Tds. At Fountain Valley, Palmer completed 14 of 23 passes for 262 yards and two touchdowns. At Durango, he played 7:04 and completed six of nine passes for 167 yards and two scores. Palmer did not play against Trabuco Hills or El Modena due to a stress fracture in his left foot. Preseason: Palmer was named to several pre-season All-American teams. He has been described as one of the top prospects in the nation. Carson was rated the No. 1 QB at the Reebok Combine in May. Misc: Palmers 203.9 QB rating leads the County by nine points. Palmer holds or shares 19 records including passing Tds in a game (5), season (26), and career (50), most consecutive games with a Td pass (12), 100-yard games in a season (11), and career (21), career completion percentage (59.8), most yards rushing by a QB in a game (150), most yards passing (356) and total offense in a game (385), career passing yards (4,279), 300 yard games in a season and career (2), most 1,000-yard seasons (2), most 2,000 seasons (2), consecutive passes without an interception (177), and highest QB rating in a game (303.7), season (203.9) and career (183.4). Palmer has a 40-2-1 (.930) record as a starter for the Eagles varsity and lower level teams over the past four seasons.
1996: Senior QB Carson Palmer (6-5 1/4, 218) was named First Team All-League, and is an All-CIF, All-Orange County, All-State, and pre-season All American candidate. Carson has been described by several college coaches and, in particular, national recruiting services as one of the top prospects in the nation. Carson was rated the No. 1 QB at the Reebok Combine held at UCLA. Carson is coming off a brilliant season in which he passed for 2, 084 yards and 24 TD's with only six interceptions. He set school records for TD's in a game (4), and in a season (24), most yards rushing in a game by a QB (150), most yards of total offense in a game (375), and highest QB rating in a game (303.7), season (168.4) and career (167.7). Palmer also tied a team record with 11 100-yard games. Carson had four 3 TD Games and currently has a streak of 69 passes in a row without an interception. He is second among returning county QB's in yards and tied for first in TD's. Against Newport Harbor in the CIF Championship Game, Carson completed 9 of 13 passes for a career high 245 yards and 3 TD's . Two weeks earlier vs. Valencia, Palmer was 14 of 20 for 186 and 2 TD's, and against Corona Del Mar in Week 10 he was 4 of 6 for 150 yards and two TDs in limited action. At El Toro in Week 9, Carson was 13 of 21 for 225 yards and set school records for total offense (375 yards) and touchdown passes (4). He also added 150 yards and a TD on the ground to be named Athlete of the Week by the Los Angeles Times and the South County News. Carson also had a 69-yard run in that game called back because of a penalty. He is the best prospect Santa Margarita has ever had and is on pace to break every one of Sean O'Brien's single season and career passing records. Carson has a 32-2-1 (.912) record as a starter for the Eagles varsity and lower level teams. Palmer runs the 40 in 4.79 and bench presses 290 lbs and squats 355 lbs. |
