Special Teams Outlook
In the past the Eagles have traditionally had very strong special teams, and 1992 should be no different. One of the reasons Santa Margarita is so successful is they practice each day on all of the teams. The kickoff team will rely on the strong leg of Sean O’Brien, who consistently kicks the ball inside the five-yard line. O’Brien will also do the extra point and field goal kicking, an area which needs to improve from the 1991 season. Bert Coutts and Frank Brenes are long snappers for these teams. Chris Tiernan and O’Brien will battle for the starting punting role as they shared that duty in 1991. The kickoff return team lost one of the best in county in history in Josh Ireland, but John Zampese and Kevin Duffy will lead the way for the Eagles. The punt return team will be headed by Coach Jeff Seckman, whose sophomore team returned three for touchdowns last year. Duffy, Zampese and Todd Tucker are three who have shown promise returning the ball. The special teams will look to excel and come up with the big plays to turn games around in 1992. Coach Jamie Larkin, coordinator, will have plenty of schemes and motivation to bring the Eagles to prominence throughout the year.
