Santa Margarita's Ireland rushes for 242 yards, 3 TDs
BANNING, CA., September 21, 1990 – Josh Ireland rushed for a school-record 242 yards, scored three touchdowns and passed for another to lead Santa Margarita past Banning, 35-6, in a non-league game Friday at Banning.
Ireland, a junior, scored on runs of 91, 1 and 7 yards. His 91-yard run with 7:40 remaining in the first quarter also is a school record.
David Shearer also played well for the Eagles (3-0), catching a 26 yard yard scoring pass from Ireland. Shearer, who intercepted a pass in the second half, also scored after recovering a fumble on the Banning 7-yard line.
Banning dropped to 1-2.
