MISSION VIEJO, CO., September 20, 2019 – The Santa Margarita Catholic defense was on display as the Eagles shutout the Stellar Prep Thunder (Hayward, California), 34-0. It was the second-consecutive shutout for the Eagles to close-out the non-league portion of the schedule. The last time SMC notched two-straight shutouts was in the first two weeks of the 2017 season, 56-0 at Downey and 35-0 at Loyola. In all, the Eagles have now gone nine-consecutive quarters without allowing a point, dating back to the Cherry Creek game on the road.

On offense, Nick Barcelos rushed for 136 yards and one score. Junior QB Colt Fulton was 8/18, 100 yards and 1 TD. Malaki Edwards also added a rushing score. Matthew Casey and Tyler Wetmore scored receiving touchdowns. Joshua Contreras had a touchdown pass in his only attempt.

Junior LB Drew Sulick tallied 10 tackles (4 solo, 6 asst) and 1/2 a sack. Senior DE Cole Maihen recorded 6 tackles (4 solo, 2 asst) and one sack. Senior LB Billy Oberholtzer recorded 4 tackles (3 solo, 1 asst) and two sacks. Senior DL Tyler Hartigan 1.5 sacks.

SMCHS ran their consecutive-game scoring stream to 169 games. The last time the Eagles were shutout was in September, 2004 at Orange Lutheran, 19-0. The Eagles have only been shutout four times in their existence -- one time each in 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
