A.B. Miller - CIF Game Notes
This is the second meeting between Santa Margarita and the A. B. Miller Rebels, and the second year in a row that these two schools have met in the CIF-SS Division I Playoffs. Last year, the Rebels gained 492 yards (including 469 yards on the ground), and forced four Eagle fumbles in a convincing 31-0 win. (A full recap of that game is included herein).
The Eagles are seeded 5th in the Division I Playoffs and have been ranked in the Division I Top 10 for 17 of 20 polls since joining this division in 1999. They are ranked 4th in Orange County, and have been in the Orange County Top 10 for 59 of the past 67 polls.
This year, the Eagles have been entered in the playoffs for the 11th time in 12 seasons.
Head Coaches
Eagle Head Coach Jim Hartigan is 108-36-1 (.748) in his
12th season as varsity Head Coach. Overall Coach Hartigan
has a 124-39-2 (.758) if you include 10-0 and 6-3-1 lower
level teams that he led in 1987 and 1988 respectively before
the Eagles fielded varsity teams. He was honored as the
both the 1996 and 1997 Daily Pilot Sea View League Coach
of the Year, CIF-SS Division V Coach of the Year and the
National Football Foundation Orange County Coach of the
Year. Coach Hartigan has directed his squads into the playoffs
in ten of their 11 seasons and has never posted a losing
season. Jim has coached in three CIF Championship Games,
winning two, and several exciting games including two recognized
as State Games of the Week during the 1998 season, a National
Game of the Year (the 1997 CIF Championship Game) and the
1997 Orange County All-Star Game. The Rebels are led by
6th-year coach John Tyree who is 27-26 (.509) at A. B. Miller.
