Kortenhoeven leads Valley Christian to 38-6 victory over Santa Margarita
CERRITOS, CA., October 13, 1989 – Mark Kortenhoeven rushed for 216 yards and one touchdown on 21 carries as the Valley Christian Lancers crushed the Santa Margarita Eagles, 38-6, in an Olympic League game Friday night.
A crowd of about 600 attended the game, held at Valley Christian.
The Lancers (6-0, 3-0) rushed for 301 yards. Quarterback Chris Miller completed 3 of 5 passes for 29 yards and one touchdown. Miller also rushed for a 24-yard touchdown and returned an interception 34 yards for a score.
Dan Leffler was responsible for the rest of the Lancers' scoring, kicking five extra points, a 29-yard field goal, and rushing for a 24 yard touchdown.
Santa Margarita (4-2, 2-1) scored when Josh Ireland capped a 63-yard drive with a 23-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. Eagles quarterback Trevor Yankoff completed 11 of 22 for 141 yards, with two interceptions.
