Santa Margarita (4-2, 6-3) might barely miss the playoffs in its first varsity season, but the Eagles have been impressive, as they were in a 42-0 rout of Orange Lutheran on Friday. "To be honest, our goal coming into the season was to be competitive and to gain experience,"Coach Jim Hartigan said. “But if we get a wild-card berth, I think that would make this a super year." Mike Farris, a junior linebacker-fullback, led the Eagles' defense with an interception that he returned 35 yards for a touchdown, and a fumble recovery. He also made a key block to free Josh Ireland for a touchdown run.
THIS WEEK
Whittier Christian (4-0. 9-0) can wrap up the championship Saturday afternoon by winning at Miraleste (2-2, 4-3) in a 2 p.m. game. Orange Lutheran (0-5, 2-7) finishes at home Saturday against Brethren (0-4, 2-6). Both teams are out of the playoff picture.
