LAST GAME VS JSERRA
Homecoming came on a Thursday night as Santa Margarita Catholic (SMC) faced its top rival -- JSerra Catholic. Both teams were anxious for a win -- each sporting disappointing 0-3 marks in Trinity League play thus far. Fans in attendance were entertained by witnessing a spirited and physical affair that literally came down to the wire -- 18 seconds remaining. Supporters of SMCHS were left with the empty feeling of experiencing defeat at Homecoming for the second-consecutive season. With loss, SMCHS is still 23-12-0 (65.7%) all-time for Homecoming games.
After missing four games, Trent Mosley returned and exhibited his usual talent as he led the eagles offense. The junior contributed 152 yards of total offense (123 yards receiving and 29 yards rushing). His 13 pass receptions tied a career-high. He also totaled three touchdowns. The All-America selection continues his assault on the record book (see below). Freshman Jaion Smith enjoyed the best game of his career as he gained 115 yards on 18 attempts and scored one touchdown. Sophomore Jack Junker also had one score. The defense was again led by the stern combination of Logan Hirou, Leki Holani, Jayden Crowder and Ivrick Carrigan. Crowder returned after missing one game.
Offensive & Defensive Highlights:
- John Gazzaniga: 16-of-21 (76.2%), 155 yards and two touchdowns. Highest single game completion percentage of career (Minimum 20 attempts)
- Jaion Smith: 18 rush attempts, 115 yards (6.4 average) and one touchdown. New career high for rushing yards in a game and adds to own record for yards by a freshman in SMCHS history (478)
