Orange Lutheran - Game Notes

This week the Eagles play host to the Orange Lutheran lancers (6-2, 2-1) at Saddleback College on Friday, November 1st. The Lancers are coming off a heartbreaking 20-19 last minute loss to Servite to fall to 1-2 in Trinity League play making this game pivotal for each team's playoff aspirations. Kickoff for this match up is set for 7 pm.

The Lancers are led by second year coach Chuck Petersen - who is 12-6 at Orange Lutheran following a 6-4 campaign in 2012.

Santa Margarita's Harry Welch comes into the game with a career mark of 256-58-2 in his 25th season as a head coach. He is 3-0 against Orange Lutheran and 11-7 in Trinity League play in his fourth season with the Eagles.

Senior RB Jeremy McNichols leads the Eagles with 731 yards rushing while adding 17 receptions and 9 total touchdowns. Junior QB/WR/PR/P Kyle Sweet paces a balanced offensive attack with 45 receptions for 828 yards, while also completing 55.9% of his passes and rushing for 186 yards with 10 total touchdowns. In the Mater Dei game, Kyle Sweet ran and passed for 87 yards each, logged a 59-yard punt, returned a punt 4 yards and scored the game sealing TD with a 16-yard run with 2:35 left in the game.

Junior OLB Grady Higgins leads the defense with 86 total tackles while senior DT Randall Swain has six sacks and senior safety Jonathan LaBonty has three interceptions.

Senior kicker Alex Ury tied a school record at Mater Dei with his three field goals including a career-long 42-yarder. In his career Alex is now 76 of 79 in PATs and 7 for 10 in field goals.

The Orange Lutheran game will mark the 9th game of the Eagles 25th Anniversary season and it will be the 12th meeting between these foes dating back to 1989. The Lancers leads the all-time series 6-5, but the Eagles have won three in a row.
