Mater Dei - Game Notes
The Eagles (3-4, 0-2) are coming off a 30-14 loss to Servite and this week travel to Santa Ana Stadium looking to take a step towards a potential playoff berth as they take on the Mater Dei Monarchs (7-0, 2-0). Kickoff for this match up is set for 7 pm.
Santa Margarita's Harry Welch comes into the game with a career mark of 255-58-2 in his 25th season as a head coach. Senior RB Jeremy McNichols leads the Eagles with 740 yards rushing while adding 14 receptions and 9 total touchdowns. Junior WR Kyle Sweet paces the air attack with 45 receptions for 828 yards, while senior MLB Joseph McGill leads the defense with 85 total tackles.
Last week, the Monarchs defeated JSerra 38-14 to improve to 2-0 in Trinity League play. They are led by Bruce Rollenson - who is in his 25th year as Mater Dei's Head Coach, RB Justin Allen and CB Jonathan Lockett.
The Mater Dei game will mark the 8th game of the Eagles 25th Anniversary season and it will be the 15th meeting between these Catholic foes dating back to 1999. Mater Dei leads the all-time series 9-5.
