Trabuco Hills - Game Notes
This Thursday night the Eagles (2-2) travel to play the Trabuco Hills Mustangs (4-0) in what is informally called the Battle of Santa Margarita Parkway as both schools are about five miles apart and hail from opposite ends of that roadway. Kickoff is set for 7 pm at Mustang Stadium.
This game marks the 5th game of the Eagles 25th Anniversary season and it will mark the 10th meeting between these local Pac 5 foes. The Eagles first varsity game in 1989 was against Trabuco Hills and they have played each other nine previous times over the past 24 years with the Eagles holding a 7-2 series edge. The Eagles haven't lost to the Mustangs since a tough 17-12 loss at THHS in 1994 and they won last years match up 55-0.
Speaking of the 1994 game...That night Matt Nickels (who later started at USC at WR) returned an interception 71 yards for a score - then the longest defensive TD in Eagle history and a record that stood 19 years until last week when Rick Wade broke it with an 74-yard interception return at Carson.
Tidbit of the week: Harry Welch hasn't lost in Week 5 (traditionally the last week of non-league play) since the Reagan Administration. He is 2-0 against Trabuco Hills outscoring them 90-14 including a 35-14 win at Trabuco Hills in 2011.
With the 49-6 win over Carson last week, the Eagles improved to 21-4 in Week four games - top performing point on their annual schedule.
