2013 EAGLES

Bishop Gorman - Game Notes

This week the Eagles (0-1) mark the home opener of their 25th season with an exciting interstate matchup with Las Vegas Bishop Gorman (1-1). Kickoff is set for 7 pm at Saddleback College and the game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Prime Ticket. Please note that space in the pressbox is limited and if you would like to reserve a seat, or have any special requests related to your coverage of the game please let us know.

This will be the first meeting between the Eagles and the Bishop Gorman Gaels, but not the first time the Eagles have played an out of state opponent.  In fact the Eagles are 3-0 all-time against teams from outside California, but this will be the first time the Eagles have hosted such a match up.  In 1997, the Eagles defeated Las Vegas Durango 52-0 and in 2005 traveled to Kona, Hawaii to take on Kealakehe where they prevailed 26-0.  Last year, on ESPN, the Eagled opened the season by defeating Phoenix Brophy Prep 27-14.  The Gaels are the four-time defending Nevada 4A (Large School) Champions and began the year ranked in the Top 25 of most national polls. They are led by Head Coach Tony Sanchez who is 58-5 in his fifth season at Bishop Gorman.

Last week, the Eagles rolled up 526 yards of offense but could not overcome six turnovers and fell 38-28 on the road to Bishop Amat.  Junior all-everything Kyle Sweet caught seven passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns, rushed four times for 13 yards, completed a pass for 25 yards, returned two punts, punted three times and recorded a tackle in the game to become the first Eagle to ever have a rushing, passing, receiving, scoring, kicking, special teams and defensive stat in a game. His 221 receiving yards were the second most in school history behind John Minardi's 242 set at Fountain Valley in 1997.
