Colton - Game Notes

The Eagles finished the 2004 regular season 5-5 and tied for 4th in the highly competitive Serra League.

The Eagles will compete in the CIF Playoffs for the 15th time in 16 seasons and tenth in a row including all six seasons as a Division I team. They have gone 9-5 in previous round one games and 1-4 in round one since joining Division I in 1999.

This is the second game between Santa Margarita and the Colton Yellowjackets. In round one of the 1991 Division V playoffs Josh Ireland rushed for 111 yards and two tds, returned a kickoff 76 yards for another score and picked up ten tackles to lead the Eagles to a 29-22 upset over the fourth seeded Yellowjackets. Ryan Zalta added 12 tackles and a 22-yard td reception from Sean O’Brien.

Colton is 9-1 and won the Citrus Belt League title a year after finishing 11-1 and winning the San Andreas League title. The Yellowjackets are in their first year of Division I and are led by 5th year head coach Harold Strauss.
