2005 EAGLES

Dorsey - Game Notes

The Dorsey game is the Eagles first in three weeks since their 26-0 win over Kealakehe of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii on August 26th. The Eagles have now gone 10-0-1 in their last eleven season openers.

With the win over Kealakehe the Eagles improved to 13-3-1 in 17 season openers and 14-3 in road openers.

This intersectional match up is the 3rd meeting between the Eagles and Dons with the series tied 1-1. The Dons are the only LA City Section team the Eagles have ever faced and it is SM’s first road trip to an LA Section venue. In 2002, The Eagles posted their first shutout since 1998 as Dustin Slinkard forced two key fumbles to lead Santa Margarita to a 5-0 victory at Saddleback College. Jason Graban’s 42-yard field goad and Josh Thornberg’s safety provided the scoring while Ashton White added 106 yards rushing to lead the offense. Last year, Santa Margarita couldn’t contain the speed and experience of the Dons nor could they capitalize on red zone opportunities and fell 27-7 in their home opener at Saddleback College. Running backs Jeremiah Johnson and Stafon Johnson each ran for over 100 yards in the contest while the Eagle’s lone score was a 32-yard TD strike from Jon Daniels to Kyle Bryant.

As of Sunday September 12th, the Eagles are ranked 3rd in CIF-SS Division I, 5th in Orange County by The Orange County Register, 5th in Southern California by The Los Angeles Times, 6th in Southern California by CalHi Sports, 10th in California by CalHi Sports, and 16th in the West by Student Sports Magazine.

The Dons are 1-0 on the season after defeating Narbonne 15-7 and are ranked 12th in California by CalHi Sports. Last year they finished 11-2. They are led by long-time coach Paul Knox who is 175-68-1 in his 21 years.
