Eagles 38 - Rancho Bernardo 21

RANCHO BERNARDO, CA., October 8, 1999 – For the second consecutive week the Eagles rolled to a huge lead and an impressive victory - a 38-21 win over Rancho Bernardo - to improve their record to 4-1. Senior QB Chris Rix led the way as he set a school record for completion percentage by completing 17 of 20 passes for a season high 258 yards and his first scoring pass of the season. The Eagles wasted little time going on an 11-play, 76-yard scoring drive capped by a three-yard run by Tyler Thompson at the 7:43 mark for a 7-0 lead. Santa Margarita needed just 39 seconds to score again as Travis Okamoto's fumble recovery at the Bronco 25 set up a four-yard run by jimmy Herzog and a quick 14-0 lead. Rix, who also rushed for 68 yards, gained 51 yards during a seven-play 84-yard drive finished off by Thompson's second score from five yards out and a 21-0 lead. The Eagles built the lead to 28-0 at the 10:28 mark of the third quarter when Rix found Dustin Creager from 30-yards out. A David Doomey 1-yard run and 30-yard field goal in the fourth quarter built the lead to 38-7 before two late Bronco scores. Creager enjoyed his best game yet catching a career-high 10 passes for 156 yards - the 11th best receiving yardage game in Eagle history. Defensively, Matt Szkalak finished with 13 tackles while Jimmy Whithorne added seven and a fumble recovery.
