Alemany - Game Notes

This is the first ever meeting between the Alemany Indians and Santa Margarita. The Indians compete in the always tough Del Rey league and this match up marks one of the highest profile games that the Eagles have played in during their 11 year existence. Last week, the Eagles beat Bishop Amat which was ranked 1st in CIF-SS Division I, 2nd in the State, 7th in the West by USA Today and 17th in the Nation per Fox Sports West's "Fab 50". The Lancers and Eagles are the 2nd and 3rd winningest teams in State history behind Concord De La Salle as noted below:

Alemany competes in CIF-SS Division I and is ranked No. 1 in the San Fernando Valley by the LA Times and No. 3 by the Daily News. With the win over Bishop Amat, the Eagles are 16-5 (.762) vs. Division I teams.

This is Santa Margarita's 131st varsity game, and 63rd road game. The Eagles are currently 99-30-1 (.765) and will be going for their 100th win as they enter Week 7 of their 11th varsity season.

The Eagles' all-time road record is 44-18 (.710), and they are 17-5 vs. teams from Los Angeles County. They have won five straight vs. LA teams and have not lost since suffering a 25-20 defeat to La Verne Damien in 1993.

Santa Margarita is ranked 6th in the Orange County. Eagle teams have been ranked in the Orange County Top 10 for 37 of the past 41 polls and 46 of the past 51. The Eagles are also ranked 7th in CIF-SS Division I.

COACHES
Eagle Head Coach Jim Hartigan is 99-30-1 (.765) in his 11th season as varsity Head Coach. Overall Coach Hartigan has a 115-33-2 (.773) at Santa Margarita if you include 10-0 and 6-3-1 lower level teams that he led in 1987 and 1988 respectively before the Eagles fielded varsity teams. He was honored as the both the 1996 and 1997 Daily Pilot Sea View League Coach of the Year, CIF-SS Division V Coach of the Year and the National Football Foundation Orange County Coach of the Year. The Indians are led by third-year coach Jimmy Bonds.
