Carlsbad - Game Notes
This is the second game between Santa Margarita and the Carlsbad Lancers. Last year, the Eagles stormed out to a 27-0 lead then held on as Pana Faumuina's three fourth quarter touchdowns made it too close for comfort - a 34-27 Eagle victory. Greg Orlando completed 17 of 23 passes for 267 yards and two scores including the game clinching 88-yard scoring pass to Mike O'Gorman with 5:53 left in the game. John Bennett finished with 16 tackles.
The Santa Margarita-Carlsbad match-up marks the 8th game overall between the Eagles and a team from San Diego County, and the second of three this year. Last week the Eagles beat San Diego Lincoln 24-6 improving their all time record against San Diego Section teams to 6-1 (.857). In Week 5 the Eagles travel to Rancho Bernardo.
Carlsbad is 1-0 this year and ranked No. 1 in San Diego County and No. 12 in California. They finished the 1998 season 7-6 and advanced to the CIF-SD Section Division I Semi-Finals.

road game. The Eagles are currently 95-29-1 (.764) as they
enter Week 2 of their 11th varsity season. 1999 is the Eagles
first season competing in CIF-SS Division I.
The Eagles' all-time road record is 43-17 (.717), and they are 1-1 on the road in San Diego County.
They are ranked 50th in the Nation, 9th in the West, 5th in the State, 2nd in Southern California and 1st in Orange County. They have been ranked in the State Top 20 in 22 of the past 33 weekly polls.
This is the first week that Santa Margarita has been ranked No. 1 in Orange County, although they did receive some first place votes during the 1997 season.
COACHES
Eagle Head Coach Jim Hartigan is 95-29-1 (.764) in his
11th season as varsity Head Coach. Overall Coach Hartigan
has a 111-32-2 (.772) if you include 10-0 and 6-3-1 lower
level teams that he led in 1987 and 1988 respectively before
the Eagles fielded varsity teams. He was honored as the
both the 1996 and 1997 Daily Pilot Sea View League Coach
of the Year, CIF-SS Division V Coach of the Year and the
National Football Foundation Orange County Coach of the
Year. The Lancers are led by sixth-year coach Bob McAllister
who has a 39-21-1 (.648) record at Carlsbad.
