#8 Lee Smith
Lee recovered a fumble and broke up a pass against Irvine in Week 13. Smith collected 10 tackles and added a five-yard touchdown run at Tustin after picking up 14 tackles and an 11-yard run at Aliso Niguel. Smith had seven tackles at Irvine after coming off a two tackle, one sack 83% effort at Newport Harbor in Week 8. Lee looked good vs. CdM as he recorded six tackles, recovered an onsides kick, and dropped his only punt on the CdM seven yard line to earn Special Teams Player of the Game honors. Smith posted a then career-high 11 tackles at El Toro in Week 6. Smith received his highest grade (83%) of the season at linebacker vs. Rancho Bernardo. Matt tied his career-high with nine tackles, and hit a season long 42-yard punt against San Clemente. Smith had previously registered nine tackles at Dana Hills. Smith picked up seven tackles, including 0.5 sacks, and caught one pass for 11 yards vs. Carlsbad. Smith is 3rd on the team with 90 tackles on the season. 1997: Smith played in 11 games and rushed for 43 yards on 12 carries. He had a career-best 31 yards rushing at Servite in Week 3. Smith also added 10 tackles and one sack on defense. As a punter, Smith placed 8 of 26 punts within the opponent’s 20 yard line (30.8%) and had only one touchback. He averaged 33.1 yards per punt. 1996: Rushed twice for two yards during the season and had one rush for three yards during the El Modena playoff game. Lee caught one pass for five yards against El Modena (regular season) and added one tackle. Misc: Smith is one of the best athletes on the team. Lee ran a 4.58 40 at the Reebok SoCal Combine, and has a 4.31 pro agility time. Smith is 25th in career rushing with 76 yards.
