Rancho Bernardo - Game Notes
This is the third game between Santa Margarita and the Rancho Bernardo Broncos. The Eagles beat the Broncos 27-0 in 1990 and lost 37-23 in 1991.
This match-up marks the 6th game between the Eagles and a team from San Diego County. The Eagles are 4-1 (.800) against San Diego County Teams with their only loss being to the Broncos. It also marks the fourth of four consecutive games the Eagles will play against a Division I team. Last week the Eagles played San Clemente.
The Broncos are off to a 4-0 start and are ranked 6th in San Diego County. They beat Morse 10-6, Patrick Henry 27-2, Temecula 22-21 and Ramona 22-0. The Broncos play in the Palomar League, and were 3-7 in 1997.
Rancho Bernardo competes in Division I of the CIF San Diego Section, and won the Division I title in 1995. Santa Margarita has fared almost as well against Division I teams over the years (13-4, .765) as they have against all others (74-22-1, .768).

Jim Hartigan is 87-26-1 (.768) in his tenth season as varsity
Head Coach. Overall Coach Hartigan has a 103-29-2 (.776) if
you include 10-0 and 6-3-1 lower level teams that he led in
1987 and 1988 respectively before the Eagles fielded varsity
teams. He was honored as the both the 1996 and 1997 Daily
Pilot Sea View League Coach of the Year, CIF-SS Division
V Coach of the Year and the National Football Foundation Orange
County Coach of the Year. The Broncos are led by third year
coach Ron Hamamoto who has a career record of 94-53 (.639) at
RB and University.
