SERIES FACTS: In what was one of the most exciting games in SM Football history, Jeff Zaist's 46-yard field goal as time ran out gave SM a 17-14 win to open league play. The Eagles spoiled the Vaqueros playoff hopes with a 21-18 win in 1994. The loss put Irvine in a tie for third with El Toro, but they lost the coin toss and missed the playoffs. In 1993 the Vaqueros came back to post a 29-26 win. 1992's game was one of the top high school matches of the year as Irvine won the see-saw battle, 40-34. Series tied 2-2.
1996 OUTLOOK: Irvine will be anxious to meet th after two straight losses. They were 14-0 in Sea View League games prior to 1995. Irvine upset El Toro last year and advanced to the playoffs as a wild card. The Vaqueros will be tested early with games vs. University, Servite, Mater Dei and San Clemente before the league starts.
1995 Record: 6-5 overall, 3-2 in league, lost in first round of CIF playoffs.
