1995 EAGLES

Eagles 41 - Glendora 6

CITRUS COLLEGE, CA., September 16, 1995 – The two previous games between the Tartans and the Eagles proved to be no contest on the field. In 1992 Santa Margarita defeated Glendora, 28-6, in the first round of the playoffs. Two years ago, the Tartans returned the favor with a 21-0 win, only to later forfeit the game. The Eagle continued to keep the match a laugher, building on a 20-0 halftime lead behind Craig Harrison's passing and Billy Newman's running. The defense again proved stingy, keeping the Glendora total under 200 yards. Their only score came late in the game with SM ahead 34-0. Matt Nickels had a big night with 5 receptions for 129 yards and a score, 5 tackles, and an interception. He scored in the fourth quarter on a 62 pass play from Chris Collins.

Santa Margarita defeats Glendale

GLENDORA, CA., September 16, 1995 – Santa Margarita performed like a well-oiled football machine in thrashing Glendora, 41-6, at Citrus College on Saturday night.

The Eagles (2-0) dominated every phase of the game. They did not allow the Tartans to get a first down until 7:29 remained in the second quarter.

Offensively, the Eagles totaled 226 yards on the ground, led by Damian Minna's 103 yards on seven carries.

Craig Harrison and Chris Collins combined for 208 yards and two touchdowns.

"The kids' played well tonight," Santa Margarita coach Jim Hartigan said. “The offense was excellent. The two quarterbacks played well.”

Other areas of the Eagles’ game deserve mention. The defense registered two sacks, one interception and scored when linebacker Minna scored on a 30yard fumble return.

One area of concern for Hartigan is his special teams, although they did have one blocked punt.

“We can improve on special teams and make more big plays," he said.
