Bert went on to play Defensive Line at the University of Redland where he was a 4 year starter. In his senior year he was a Pre-Season All-American and All-Conference in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).

Bert was a graduate of the class of 1993 where he played on the Offensive & Defensive Line. As a senior Bert racked up 6 Unassisted Tackles, 27 Assisted Tackles and 4.5 sacks helping the Eagles to a 9-3 record and the CIF-SS Quarterfinals.
