2014 EAGLES

Dorsey - Game Notes

Below are Santa Margarita's offensive and defensive football stats thru their second game game of the season - a 56-27 win over Corona Santiago on Friday, September 5th.

This week the Eagles (2-0) host the Dorsey Dons (1-1) at Saddleback College. The Dons are coming off a tough 16-14 loss on the road to Lancaster Paraclete. Two weeks ago they opened their season with a 50-13 win over LA Hamilton. This will be the seventh meeting between these foes dating back to 2002 with the Eagles holding a 4-2 series edge. Last year, the Eagles prevailed 24-6 behind 159 yards rushing from Jeremy McNichols. In that game the Eagles outgained the Dons 364 to 228. Grady Higgins posted 17 tackles, Rick Wade added 10 while sophomore LB Tanner Matthews recorded eight tackles and recovered a fumble to help spearhead the defensive effort. The Dons are led the legendary Paul Knox who in his 30 years as head coach at Dorsey has produced 20 NFL Draft picks. Over the years the Eagles have fared well against teams from the Los Angeles City Section (going 8-2) as well as from LA County (51-21), and although they've won four of six over Dorsey they haven't usually scored a lot against them with the average being just 16.3 points per game.

Please note that kickoff is set for 7:00 pm at Saddleback College and the game will not be broadcast live on TV or via the Internet.

The Dons play at the LA Section Division I level and the Dorsey game will be the 50th consecutive game against Division-I level competition dating back to week 5 of the 2010 season - a 31-7 win over then Pac-5 (Division I) Los Alamitos. Through the first 49 games in that stretch the Eagles have gone 36-13 (.735). Amazingly, 65 of the Eagles’ last 69 games have been against Division I-level competition. The following week (September 19th) the Eagles travel to Las Vegas to play the nation's #1 ranked team - Bishop Gorman.

Santa Margarita has gone 99-64-1 (.607) against Division I competition dating back to a 13-12 win over Servite in 1991 when the Eagles were in their third varsity season. This includes a 15-4 mark against Division I teams outside of the Southern Section such as San Jose Bellarmine Prep, Phoenix Brophy Prep and Las Vegas Bishop Gorman.
