2007 EAGLES

Servite 32 - Eagles 15

BREA, CA., October 12, 2007 – RB Carlo Audagnotti scored on a 49-yard run for the Eagles on their first possession. Servite went three and out on theirs.

Servite gets a TD on a D.J. Shoemate run. The Friars go for two points, but don’t make it.

Scoring was cut in half in the second quarter. Servite scored after Santa Margarita got tough down by the goal line. The Friars needed five plays to score after reaching the three-yard line. QB Johnny McEntee scored on his fourth consecutive carry, and Michael Loftus’ PAT made it 13-7.

Santa Margarita moved the ball downfield with the pass in the final minutes but stalled at midfield as Brett Mason was sacked by DJ Shoemate as the half ended.

And here is a key, key stat — D.J. Shoemate 15 carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. That is more "touches" than Shoemate had in the entire game last week in the Friars’ loss to Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks.

Servite RB D.J. Shoemate scored on a 4-yard run in the 3rd.

There was plenty of scoring in the fourth quarter, but most of it was done by Servite (5-1, 1-0) and DJ Shoemate in a 32-15 Trinity League victory over Santa Margarita.

He had TD runs of eight and 33 yards, and he finished with 31 carries for 184 yards ... and four touchdowns.

Carlo Audagnotti scored on another long run, giving him TD runs of 51 and 48 for Santa Margarita (3-3, 0-1).

Shoemate not the only prime-time player

It was evident early on Friday night that Servite's DJ Shoemate wasn't the only prime-time player on the field at Brea Olinda High, where the Friars beat Santa Margarita, 32-15, in a Trinity League opener.

Carlo Audagnotti of Santa Margarita reeled off his 51-yard touchdown run to begin the scoring and leave Servite fans breathless as they quickly fell behind, 7-0 and added a 48-yarder in the fourth quarter. He also had gains of 28 and 14 yards, and finished by my (approximate) numbers with 17 carries for 176 yards and two touchdowns.

"Dude, he's a heck of a football player," said Servite Coach Troy Thomas, when asked if Audagnotti (5-9, 175) might be one of the most underrated running backs around. Remember, this is the same cat who gained over 200 yards against St. Bonaventure the same night that Darrell Scott gained fewer than 80 against Santa Margarita.

"He runs downhill," Thomas continued. "He's a tough little sucker to bring down. He broke some tackles tonight, he's so quick. Their offensive line did a nice job at times. But he's done that on film every week. You bottle him up, you bottle him up, and schwoooop, there he goes."
