Eagles soar to victory
MENIFEE, CA., September 7, 2007 – Santa Margarita quarterback Brett Mason accounted for four touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a 38-7 nonleague victory over host Paloma Valley on Friday.
Mason, starting only his second game at quarterback, threw for three touchdowns and ran for another.
"We really opened it (offense) up," Mason said. "It feels great to get our first win."
Paloma Valley (0-1) scored first but Santa Margarita scored the final 38 points.
"I was very happy with our offense," fifth-year coach Mike Jacot said. "He (Mason) showed a lot of poise and we let him throw the ball more."
Mason threw for 165 yards, throwing touchdown passes to Gavin Escobar, Ryan Gotschall and Trevor Brooks.
Carlo Audagnotti (169 yards on 24 carries) and Brooks (64 yards on 12 carries) provided the rest of the offense for Santa Margarita.
