LB Jordan - Game Notes

The Long Beach Jordan game marks the Eagles second home contest of 2003 and their first on KWRM AM 1370 this season. The Eagles have won their last four games broadcast over the radio.

The win over Redlands improved the Eagles record to 2-0 for the second consecutive year. The Eagles are seeking to begin their season 3-0 for the seventh time. It has been done six previous times – 1990, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2002.

Santa Margarita has done exceptionally well in Week 3 posting a 13-1 record. Their only loss was a 38-27 setback to Servite in 1996. They rebounded nicely to finish 13-1 and CIF-SS Division V Champions that year. Also, with the win over Redlands the Eagles improved to 12-3 in Week 2 games.

This is the first meeting between Santa Margarita and the Long Beach Jordan Panthers. The Panthers are 1-1 on the season after losing to St. John Bosco 24-18 in Week 1 and defeating Hawthorne 22-19 last week. The Panthers finished the 2002 season 4-6 and tied for third in the Moore League. They are led by first-year Head Coach Andy Lee.

With the win over St. Paul in Week 1 the Eagles have now gone 8-0-1 in their last nine season openers, and 11-3-1 overall in Week 1 since fielding their first varsity team in 1989. They also improved to 26-8 all-time against teams from Los Angeles County.

The Eagles are ranked 6th in Orange County per the Orange County Register, 10th in CIF-SS Division I and 21st in Southern California per the LA Times. They have been ranked in the Orange County Top 10 for 82 of the last 92 weekly polls, and in the CIF Division I Top 10 for 37 of the 43 weekly polls since joining Division I in 1999.
