Eagles 42 - Poway 20

Eagles' World ties TD mark

POWAY, CA., September 12, 2008 – Any time your name gets mentioned in the same breath as Carson Palmer's, it probably means you had a good night.

Santa Margarita's Ryan World tossed five touchdowns — matching Palmer's school record — to lead the Eagles to a 42-20 victory over Poway High Friday night.

"We just had fun with it," World said. "The line did a great job protecting me, and we had a good time out here tonight."

The Eagles (1-1) fumbled deep in Poway territory on the second play of the game and, three plays later, found themselves trailing 7-0.

But World and Co. kept their composure and began picking apart the Poway secondary.

"I think we did a good job settling down after the bad start," said Santa Margarita coach Mike Jacot. "Ryan ... learned from his mistakes in the first half. He settled down and played a great game."

The Eagles first five touchdowns all came via pass — going to Logan Sweet, John Reisinger, Gavin Escobar, Bobby Crane and A.J. Cruz.
