2006 EAGLES

Eagles 28 - St. John Bosco 23

Eagles defense stands tall

BELLFLOWER, CA., November 3, 2006 – No.2 Santa Margarita got pushed to the limit, and then pushed back.

Santa Margarita (8-1, 3-1) had two key defensive stops in St. John Bosco’s final possession en route to a 28-23 victory in Trinity League play Friday night at St. John Bosco High.

The Braves (6-3, 1-3) had the ball on their 44 with 26 seconds remaining in the game.

After the Braves gained 32 yards in two plays Santa Margarita's defense stiffened.

St. John Bosco quarterback Jeff Palmer was sacked, and Ryan Maxwell intercepted a pass to end the threat and the game.

The Eagles defense also blunted a St. John Bosco threat at the end of the second quarter, forcing the Braves to settle for a 41-yard field goal, which cut their deficit to 10-9.

Maxwell's contribution to Santa Margarita's victory wasn't confined to defense. He scored on a 1-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Eric Reisinger in the second quarter.

He also had a 46-yard touchdown reception. Maxwell finished with eight receptions for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

Reisinger completed 16 of 22 passes for 192 yards with an interception and accounted for four touchdowns.

The Eagles, who had scoring drives of 81 and 79 yards, likely clinched a playoff berth, and can clinch at least a share of the league title next week with a victory over Servite.
