Corona Del Mar 21 - Eagles 12

Injury spoils Sea Kings' 21-12 victory

MISSION VIEJO, CA., October 28, 1994 – One positive step for Corona del Mar, a 21-12 Sea View League victory over Santa Margarita, might turn into a real small one because of a key injury Friday night at Saddleback College.

The Sea Kings (4-4, 2-1) broke a four-team league logjam that included Santa Margarita (4-4, 12). But senior running back Brian Hogan rolled his right ankle in a pile with 2:42 remaining and left on crutches.

Hogan had another excellent night, carrying 31 times for 182 yards and three touchdowns to spoil Santa Margarita's homecoming. Corona del Mar might like to have that final carry back, though.

"They think it's a pretty serious sprain," Corona del Mar coach Mark Schuster said. "We'll just have to take it day by day."

The Sea Kings jumped to a 21-0 lead early in the third quarter and then held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Eagles.

Corona del Mar did most of its damage in the first half as Hogan scored on two 1-yard runs, and the defense limited Santa Margarita to 23 yards.

The Sea Kings' first score was set up by Todd Borland's interception on the Eagles' opening possession. Corona del Mar traveled 57 yards in 14 plays, with Hogan carrying nine times for 30 yards.

The next drive went quicker, with Hogan needing four plays to go 70 yards behind his punishing Offensive line.
