Santa Margarita wins its league debut, beating Ontario Christian

MISSION VIEJO, CA., September 29, 1989 – Quarterback Trevor Yankoff broke open a close game with a pair of touchdown runs in the fourth quarter Friday night to lead Santa Margarita to a 23-7 Olympic League victory over Ontario Christian at Saddleback College.

It was the first-ever league game for the second-year Eagles (3-1, 10).

Josh Ireland led the Santa Margarita ground attack with 137 yards and a touchdown, upping his season totals to 458 yards and six touchdowns.

The Eagles scored on their first possession, going 73 yards in 15 plays with Travis Lucero hitting a 37-yard field goal. The drive ate up 8:11 of the first quarter.

Santa Margarita scored again on its next possession when Ireland ended a 56-yard drive with a 16-yard touchdown run.
